Vehicle Maintenance – Be Winter Ready!

You’ll finally have peace of mind after getting winter maintenance for your vehicle!

All too soon “winter is coming” becomes “winter has arrived”, and with winter comes treacherous road conditions. Keep your vehicle running safely through ice and snow by carrying out preventative maintenance as the temperatures start to drop.

Windshield wipers

Maximum visibility is vital in any season. Having wipers in good working condition to keep your windshield clear of snow and sleet while navigating icy roads can be a lifesaver. Check and replace your wipers annually.

Windshield washer fluid

Your wipers can use all the help they can get! Use winter washer fluid rated for extreme cold and keep it topped up. Carry an extra jug, just in case.

Coolant

Also referred to as antifreeze, coolant stabilizes fluid temperature in the engine. Mixed 50/50 with water, this chemical additive keeps the liquid from freezing in your radiator in winter, while preventing the engine from overheating all year round. This fluid also reduces the risk of corrosion in the engine. Coolant should be flushed and replaced as recommended by your vehicle maintenance schedule.

Battery

To avoid being stranded by a dead battery, have it tested annually to ensure it’s holding a charge effectively, and inspect the connections for damage or corrosion.

Winter tires

Made of a more flexible rubber compound, winter tires provide more grip for safer traction at temperatures below freezing. Switch to winter tires when temperatures reach single digits (Celsius). When checking tire pressure throughout the driving season, don’t over-inflate.

Winter emergency driving kit

When the unexpected happens, be prepared with an ice scraper, fuel line antifreeze, shovel, kitty litter for traction, flashlight, survival candle, matches and blanket, water and non-perishable snacks.
